The epic poetry gathered in this volume, the only one published, accounts for the most outstanding historical episodes sung by anonymous authors and well-known figures of Argentine literature at the dawn of the republic, such as Esteban de Luca, Fray Cayetano Rodríguez, Manuel of Arauchos. Bartolomé Hidalgo and Juan Cruz Varela, among others.


The different compositions are enriched with explanatory notes, many of them with meridian observations that place the selected bards in their rightful place.


Its compiler, Estanislao Zeballos, was the director of the monumental Revista de Derecho, Historia y Letras, whose collection gathered 76 volumes.
