SOUTH AMERICA & MERIDIONAL

PARAGUAY, BRAZIL, ARGENTINA, URUGUAY

Il Paraguai e parte dei Paesi adiacenti. J. G. Piteri scr. Venezia 1785. Con Privilegio dell’ Eccmo Senato.

Colored map. Measurements: 41.5 x 34 cm / 16.33 x 13.38 in. Exemplary in excellent condition and with wide margins. Framed.

It belongs to the atlas edited by Antonio Zatta in 1785, "Atlante Nuovissimo", a monumental work in four volumes. Finely colored by the time, it represents, to the north, the “Countries of the Amazons”; to the east to Brazil; to the west to Potosí, Famatina and Mendoza; and to the south a mountain range that culminates with an active volcano, in the Tandil mountains.

On the Atlantic coast, south of Buenos Ayres, Atalaya mentions -on the coast, alluding to a defense post with a guard of blandengues that remained active throughout the 18th century-, P. (unta) de Piedra -“stone tip”- in the north of Samborombón Bay), Cabo San Andrés and Bahía Anegada, in the vicinity of Patagones. It also places numerous nations of native peoples, such as Charrúas, Guaycurúes and Zamucos.

Antonio Zatta, of Venetian origin, printer, bookseller and editor of maps and engravings, acted around 1780 accompanied by his sons. At the end of the 18th century, he was succeeded by his son Giovanni Zatta.
